I just started Depakote. How often will I need a blood test?

Depends on what ur first blood test says. If ur first blood test shows ur levels to be normal, then they probably wo not bother for another 6 months at least. They will test u fortnightly if they're still adjusting the dosages.
Some doctors only believe in testing levels if it seems the meds r causing toxicity or r not therapeutic. They will look out for physical changes & increased seizures which indicate incorrect levels.
I took Dilantin for a while but they could not get it right & quite frankly I got tired of all the blood tests, so I switched to Tegretol & have not had a blood test since (or a seizure).
