My doctor just started me on Depakote (500mg once a day at night).l have read so many NEGATIVE things about this drug and l am a bit scared to tell you the truth.Another thing is that l am already on 6 Percocet 10-325 is a day (sometimes more) for chronic pain.Does anyone know if these two interfere w/ each other.l know that l can take them together but it seems that the Depakote makes my percocet ''less strong.''Is anyone else out there on BOTH the medications?? Can anyone give me any info on Depakote and your experiences with it!?l am scared about the hair loss and weight gain!!l just started the Depakote yesterday and wanna STOP taking it if l need to before l get too ''dependant'' on it.Any help would be extremely appreciated!! Thank you so much in advance!!
no.. l dont have a weight problem.l am 5'3'' and weigh 122 lbs.The problem is that after having 2 kids l FINALLY lost the weight and am once again happy w/ the way l look.l dont want that to change!!l am taking it b/c l can NOT take anti-depressants (they throw me in the OPPOSITE direction) and l suffer from depression. l know that it is a mood stabilizer.l am just scared of all the horrible things that l have heard about it.l am calling my doc on Monday to see what else is out there and my other options but it being the weekend and all.. l was just hoping to have some input before then! Depakote and Percocet

Dump the Depakote - can result in huge weight gain. Put 80 lbs on my already fat butt in 6 years. (Not fat anymore! :o)

Topamax can do the same prophylactic job and may have weight loss as a side effect.

Studies indicate that taking 400mg each of Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) and Magnesium Citrate (vitalady.com) can also help prevent migraine.

Depakote and Percocet

First of all, what r u taking the depakote for? It can be used for a couple of disease states. There may be other options that do not cause as much weight gain depending on what u r using it for. However, ur doctor should know that so I am assuming that u do not have a weight problem to begin with. I would moniter ur weight to be sure that depakote is not affecting ur weight

As far as anyinteractions with Percocet, there r no major ones. However, they can both cause drowsiness so please be careful while driving or doing something that requires full alertness (like watching a baby etc).

One little point I want to bring up, is that if u see symptoms of liver damage that include weakness, tiredness, swelling in the face, & loss of appetite, please continue to take ur medicine - but contact ur doctor as soon as possible.

Depakote and Percocet

Depakote is NOT an anti depressant. It is a mood stablizer. But u will need to have ur blood checked regularly. ALso u need to take the medicine regularly (if u stay on it). If u dont take it regularly & they check ur blood it could look like ur depakote levels r not high enough & the doctor could increase the meds not knowing the level is low because it is not being taken regularly. But all in all, talk to ur doctor again because it sounds like u r not wanting to try this medication.

Depakote and Percocet

I can understand ur concerns about taking this medication. I think a person is gut instincts r usually correct. Talk with ur medical doctor about ur concerns & why u feel this drug may not be for you. This is mainly used as an anti depressant & for help with chronic pain. There r other medicines like this with less side effects. What I do not like about this medicine is the extreme possibility of liver problems & the necessity to have ur blood levels checked monthly because of liver complications.

Depakote and Percocet

call your pharmacist and ask him these questions as he can tell you if these drugs will interact together. do not stop them on your own.
