Question about going off Depakote

The questions I would have. Why were u on depakote in the first place? Why does this doctor want to take u off depakote? Was it working for it is intended purpose, & it is effectiveness has subsided? Are u having bad side effects from it?

From the little bit I've read u should definitely taper off, not just stop taking it, though I would imagine ur doctor told is advising u the same thing. http://crazymeds.us/discontinue.htm

Good luck with things.

Question about going off Depakote

aspie hun, go off slowly.. ramping down slowly to nothing, then ramping up slowly on the new med is the best route. i also suggest you have lots of chocolate around..it helps the withdrawals too.

Question about going off Depakote

All medications intrinsically have withdrawal symptoms. You need to talk to your doctor about the specific problems with going off Depakote (he should have already told you) and how you can go off the medication in a way (gradual, incremental, etc.) that mitigates the symptoms.
